  • Build and optimize low-latency, high-throughput APIs that abstract and simplify complex DeFi operations
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in DeFi, blockchain, and backend development to continuously improve the product
  • Work closely with frontend developers to ensure seamless interaction between the frontend and APIs or blockchain nodes for real-time data display
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and workflows
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, share best practices, and mentor junior team members

  • Conduct regular testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to enhance performance and usability of the platform

Knowledge & Experience

  • Must have 3+ years of experience in a similar role and level
  • Proficiency with developing low-latency microservices using Rust or Go in a production environment
  • Proficiency in blockchain fundamentals, DeFi concepts (e.g. AMMs, cross-chain bridges), and key DeFi protocols and aggregators (e.g. Jupiter, Uniswap, Jito, Flashbots)
  • Experience integrating natively with DeFi protocols and smart contracts (e.g. Uniswap Router, pump.fun liquidity pools, multicall)
  • Experience working with Anchor Framework IDLs and EVM ABIs
  • Experience with debugging and benchmarking applications with tools such as pprof, delve, and gdb
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) in a production setting
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (or equivalent) for packaging and running microservices in a production environment
  • Experience designing and managing relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and in-memory data stores (Redis), including schema design, indexing, and caching strategies for low-latency services

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A creative problem-solver who is eager to innovate and push boundaries in the DeFi space
  • Deep understanding of web technologies and blockchain fundamentals, particularly within DeFi
  • Thrives in scrappy start-up environments; sees ambiguity as an opportunity
  • Comfortable taking ownership of complex problems and transforming them into user-friendly solutions
  • Excels in collaboration, building trust with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Adept at communicating complex concepts clearly and concisely
  • Relentless in delivering high-quality products, even under pressure
  • Understands that speed and agility are key competitive advantages and drives urgency without compromising quality
  • Passionate about DeFi, with a commitment to continuous learning

Bonus Points

Why Blockchain Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Blockchain was once a niche technology, associated mostly with Bitcoin & cryptocurrency trading. In the UK today, it’s become a mainstream enabler of decentralised finance, supply chain traceability, identity management, health data sharing & even cultural products like NFTs. As blockchain matures, careers in the sector are expanding beyond developers & cryptographers. A blockchain project doesn’t just need people who can write smart contracts or design consensus mechanisms. It needs lawyers who understand regulation, ethicists who anticipate harm, psychologists who study user behaviour, linguists who simplify complex communication, and designers who build usable, trustworthy interfaces. In this article, we’ll explore why UK blockchain careers are becoming more multidisciplinary, how law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design shape the sector, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive.

Blockchain Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Blockchain Department

Blockchain is no longer just about cryptocurrencies. In the UK, financial services, supply chain management, healthcare, gaming, and even government are exploring blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) for secure, transparent, and efficient systems. As adoption grows, organisations must build dedicated blockchain teams. But who does what in a blockchain department? How do roles differ between developers, architects, cryptographers, and compliance officers? And what do UK employers actually look for when hiring blockchain professionals? This guide explains the structure of a modern blockchain team, breaks down each role, discusses collaboration across the product lifecycle, and highlights UK career prospects and salaries.
