Koinly is a leading crypto tax platform helping millions of users calculate gains, generate reports, and stay on top of their crypto finances. We work with major exchanges and tax platforms globally and sit at the intersection of crypto and tax.

We're hiring a Head of Crypto Tax to lead the tax side of our product and act as the authoritative voice of tax at Koinly.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership role for a tax expert (CPA required) who thrives in the spotlight and would love being at the center of Koinly.

You'll serve as the POC for all tax-related matters, being the face of Koinly's technical authority, bridging the gap between technical product logic, strategic marketing, and high-level partnerships.

✨ This is not a traditional back-office tax role — it’s product-facing, partner-facing, and externally visible.

We’re a remote-first, async-first startup with deep product-market fit in the booming crypto-fintech space. If you value autonomy, technical excellence, and high-impact strategy, Koinly is the place for you.

Read On For Responsibilities, Requirements, And Who We Are. ????
Role at a glance

  • The mission: Own the tax narrative. Act as the primary technical authority for Product, the "Face of Tax" for Marketing, and the lead expert for Strategic Partnerships.
  • Team: Leadership / Cross-functional
  • Report to: CEO
  • Location: Remote, United States (US) (California preferred)
  • Employment: Full-time
  • Salary: TBD based on experience
  • Experience level: 4+ years of accounting experience
  • Visa sponsorship: No
  • Perks: 32 days PTO, 100% Async culture, flexible schedule, true autonomy, and the platform to build your personal brand alongside a category leader.

Sit at the intersection of product compliance, strategic partnerships, and industry education.

Responsibilities

  • Public authority and community: Represent Koinly as a thought leader. You'll represent Koinly publicly through major industry conferences, webinars, social platforms, and engage daily with the crypto community on X, Reddit, and LinkedIn.
  • Strategic voice: Collaborate with Marketing to set the agenda for educational and thought leadership content, breaking down complex IRS shifts into ready, authoritative insights.
  • Product logic and compliance: Own the tax logic and correctness of Koinly’s outputs (e.g., capital gains, Form 8949, 1099-DA, DeFi treatment). You define our position on ambiguous technical scenarios.
  • Partner advocacy: Act as the technical POC for high-stakes meetings with strategic partnerships (exchanges, tax software providers, ecosystem partners).
  • Ecosystem immersion: Stay deeply immersed in the crypto tax policy, on-chain developments and emerging market practices globally to ensure Koinly is always first-to-market with guidance.

Requirements

  • You're a public-facing expert: You don't just have a LinkedIn profile; you've an audience. You're comfortable (and effective) on camera, on stage, and in the "trenches" of crypto social media.
  • You're a US tax expert: You've got 4+ years of specialized experience in capital gains and digital asset taxation, with a deep, technical understanding of IRS reporting.
  • You're a qualified CPA: You hold an active CPA license and have the technical rigor that comes with it.
  • You're crypto-native: You don’t just study the tech; you're an active participant in the ecosystem. You've personally navigated staking, DeFi protocols, NFTs, and complex on-chain transactions. You understand the culture as well as the code.
  • You're decisive: You thrive on ownership. You don't say "it depends" but rather make definitive judgement calls in evolving areas to ensure the product remains both compliant and user-friendly.
  • You're entrepreneurial: You view yourself as a "Tax Influencer" or "Community Leader" first, and an accountant second. You want to own the narrative, not just the ledger.

This is not the fit for you if...

  • You prefer a "back-office" and find public speaking or social media engagement draining.
  • You require 100% regulatory certainty before taking a position or providing product guidance.
  • You view crypto through a traditional lens rather than as a fundamental shift in finance.

Ready to write the playbook on crypto tax?

???? If you're a "chronically online" expert who's tired of the billable-hour grind and ready to own the narrative for a global leader in a high-stakes industry, this is your seat. At Koinly, you’ll have the autonomy to build, the data to grow, and the authority to lead.

Don’t just join a team. Come build a standard. Apply now!

How Many Blockchain Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Blockchain Job?

If you are navigating the blockchain job market, it can feel like you need to master an entire tech stack before you’re even ready to apply. One job advert mentions Solidity, another talks about Hyperledger Fabric, another lists MetaMask, Hardhat, Git, Truffle, and Web3.js — and that’s before you scroll past three LinkedIn posts about “top blockchain skills for 2026.” It’s no wonder job seekers feel overwhelmed. But here’s the honest truth that many hiring managers quietly agree on: 👉 You don’t need to know every blockchain tool to get hired. 👉 You need to know the right ones for the role you’re targeting — and how to use them to solve real problems. Tools matter, but context and capability matter more. This guide breaks down exactly how many blockchain tools you need to learn, which ones matter for specific roles, and how to position what you know so hiring managers take notice.

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Blockchain Job Applications (UK Guide)

Hiring managers in blockchain tech do not start by reading every line of your CV. They scan for credibility, clarity and relevance, and they make an early judgement about whether you can solve real problems in a cutting-edge, evolving landscape. In blockchain and distributed ledger roles—whether in core protocol teams, smart contract development, Web3 infrastructure, compliance/security, or product-focused positions—the strongest applications make the right signals obvious in the first 10–20 seconds. This in-depth guide explains exactly what hiring managers in UK blockchain jobs look for first, how they assess CVs, cover letters and portfolios, and why strong candidates sometimes get overlooked. Use it as a practical checklist before you apply for roles on www.blockchainjobs.uk

The Skills Gap in Blockchain Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

Blockchain technology has moved far beyond cryptocurrency headlines. Across finance, supply chains, cybersecurity, gaming, digital identity, healthcare, and public infrastructure, distributed ledger technology is being explored, tested and deployed at scale. Yet despite growing adoption, blockchain employers across the UK consistently report the same problem: a severe shortage of job-ready talent. Graduates emerge with theoretical knowledge, computer science fundamentals, or an interest in decentralisation—but struggle to meet the practical demands of blockchain roles. Vacancies remain open. Startups compete aggressively for experienced hires. Employers spend months searching for candidates who can contribute from day one. The issue is not intelligence. It is not motivation. It is not even demand. The problem is a widening skills gap between blockchain education and real blockchain jobs. This article explores that gap in depth: what universities teach well, what they routinely miss, why the gap exists, what UK employers actually want, and how jobseekers can bridge the divide to build sustainable careers in blockchain.
