Financial Investigator Crypto Seizure (NEROCU)

Join to apply for the Financial Investigator Crypto Seizure (NEROCU) role at Northumbria Police.

Location: Sunderland | Hours/Contract: 37 Hours, 12 Months FTC | Working for: North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU)

The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU) is one of ten Regional Organised Crime Units (ROCU) in England and Wales that lead the regional response to serious and organised crime. NEROCU delivers intelligence, operations, cyber, economic, and digital capabilities across the region.

The role

You’ll be working alongside our experienced Dark Web team, supporting live crypto investigations and expanding your expertise through Chainalysis training and advanced analytical tools. From interpreting Crypto SARs to mapping emerging threats, you’ll help shape future SOC strategies and reduce harm across the region.

What you’ll do

  • Drive data‑led investigations: Plan and conduct data collection and integration to support complex analysis. Use advanced data techniques—including programming—to manage and interpret large datasets, identifying opportunities to disrupt serious and organised crime.
  • Collaborate and represent NEROCU: Liaise with internal teams, partner agencies, and external organisations to share intelligence and coordinate analytical products. Represent NEROCU at briefings, conferences, and national working groups.
  • Deliver impactful analysis: Apply recognised analytical techniques to assess intelligence, test hypotheses, and develop inferences that inform tactical and strategic decisions.
  • Enhance regional threat understanding: Produce analytical products that identify regional, cross‑border, and national SOC threats.
  • Support live operations and legal processes: Provide real‑time research during live operations, prepare evidential statements, and attend court as a professional witness.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience in conducting detailed analysis across varied data sources.
  • Familiarity with analytical tools and techniques, including data extraction and manipulation.
  • Relevant qualification in intelligence analysis (e.g. Level 3 City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of how intelligence and evidence support law enforcement, including CPIA, IPA, and the National Intelligence Model.
  • Awareness of SOC threats and enablers, particularly in cryptocurrency and the dark web.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present findings clearly and influence across all levels.
  • Collaborative approach, experience with cross‑agency partners.
  • Capability to mentor colleagues and support skill development.
  • Confidence in Microsoft Office; willingness to learn specialist systems.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK – Full UK Driving Licence required.

Terms of appointment

This is a fixed‑term role subject to a six‑month probationary period. Successful candidates will be required to complete Management Vetting (MV)/Security Clearance (SC) and meet UK residency criteria.

Equal Employment Opportunity statement

We welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Appointments are based on merit alone.

Where to Advertise Blockchain Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise blockchain jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, communities and channels that reach Web3, smart contract and protocol engineers. The candidate pool is global in outlook but concentrated in specific communities — protocol engineers, smart contract developers, DeFi specialists and Web3 product leaders who move between roles through networks and community channels as much as traditional job boards. General job boards reach a broad audience but lack the specificity that blockchain professionals expect. Specialist platforms, crypto-native communities and targeted outreach each serve a different part of the market. This guide, published by BlockchainJobs.uk, covers where to advertise blockchain roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Blockchain Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Blockchain Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and the Web3, DeFi and tokenisation hiring trends shaping UK blockchain careers over the next three years. Blockchain is creating jobs in places nobody predicted three years ago. What began as infrastructure for cryptocurrency is now embedded in financial services, supply chain management, digital identity, healthcare records, and the emerging architecture of tokenised assets. The roles being hired for today bear little resemblance to the developer-heavy, crypto-native job adverts that defined the sector's early years. For job seekers, this is both the complexity and the opportunity of building a blockchain career in 2026. The sector has matured beyond its speculative phase and into serious institutional adoption — and that shift has fundamentally changed what employers are looking for, where the jobs are, and which skills command a premium. The candidates who will thrive over the next three years aren't necessarily those who got in earliest or who can recite the Bitcoin whitepaper from memory. They're the ones who understand where enterprise blockchain, decentralised finance, digital assets regulation, and Web3 infrastructure are heading — and who are building their skills accordingly. This article breaks down what the UK blockchain jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career ahead of the next wave rather than behind it.
